Day Camp: Programs
We have a number of awesome program areas throughout the camp, and we are working on developing exciting new programs for each and every one. Here are some of the exciting things you'll get to try at camp this summer!!
Outdoor skills are taught to campers in an age specific manner. Pioneers & Trailblazers learn the basics of knots, fire lays and outdoor cooking, as well as some Indian Lore. Voyagers will also learn Basic First Aid, lashings, and orienteering as part of their growth towards independence.
Nature and Ecology
What better place to explore our sensitive environment and its living creatures than the in the sprawling woodlands that make up our camp? Discover the secrets of the various plants and animals found right here in Alpine. Also, take a hike out to the Palisades Cliffs to learn about erosion and geology.
Take your best shot at the Archery and BB ranges while you are at camp! All campers are given in-depth instruction and tips to ensure a safe day on the range. Determination is always painted on the campers’ faces as they try to get the ever-elusive BULL’S-EYE! So, READY. AIM. FIRE!
In this area, campers are sure to improve on their teamwork. Field sports include basketball, soccer, hockey, and softball; Alpine provides all of the equipment needed. Scouts are taught the basic rules of the sports and are then allowed to play out a game. During the fitness program, campers are challenged to perform their fastest, while trying to race through the obstacle course.
Arts and Crafts
This program area promises to bring out every camper’s creativity and imagination. Many of the craft projects are centered on the theme of the week to further enhance the experience at camp. Campers use their handy skills to create fun and sometimes challenging projects.
At Alpine our goal is that every camper becomes a swimmer and every swimmer becomes a lifesaver! Swimming instruction and recreational swimming are done at the pool. Swimming tests are given at check-in.
Anyone staying in camp who desires to use any of the Aquatics Facilities must take a Swim Test. Swim Tests will be offered upon your arrival in camp on Sunday. Alternative times should be coordinated with the Aquatics Director in your camp. Swimming tests will be administered under National BSA Aquatics Standards.
Learner: Enter the water, be reasonably comfortable, and get your head wet.
Beginner: Demonstrate your ability to jump feet first into water over your head in depth, level off and swim 25 meters on the surface, stop, turn sharply, resume swimming, then return to your starting place.
Swimmer: Demonstrate your ability to jump feet first into water over the head in depth, swim 75 meters in a strong manner using one or more of the following strokes: side-stroke, breaststroke, trudgen, or crawl; then swim 25 meters using an easy, resting backstroke. The 100 meters must be swum continuously and include at least one sharp turn. After completing the swim, rest by floating.
The Fitness Area provides personal fitness challenges and exercises. Program here emphasizes personal achievement and improvement over time.
Play 9 holes of miniature golf, climb the indoor climbing wall, play basketball, learn team building games, visit the fire truck or visit the game room. So many activities await you at the activity center.
